As
a student at Pratt Institute, Irv Koons financed most of his tuition
and expenses through selling illustrations to publications. His
first major commissions were for a series of humorous best selling
books
for Simon and Schuster and Random House.
Simultaneous to developing an internationally known design firm, he continued
to produce editorial, advertising, and promotional illustrations for a variety
of clients including Good Housekeeping, Ladies Home Journal, Sports Illustrated,
Seventeen, Argosy, Today’s Woman, Family Circle, Fortune, Holiday Magazine,
Tom Thumb’s Magazine for Little Folks, Time-Life, Lederle Laboratories,
Sharp and Dohme, Burlington Mills, Dupont, Metropolitan Life Insurance,First
National City Bank,
and many others.
After Saatchi and Saatchi Worldwide acquired his design firm, he accepted an
appointment as Senior Advisor to the Administrator of the
United
Nations
Development
Programme. He recently resigned from this position
allowing
him the flexibility to concentrate on illustration, specializing
in children’s books and Judaica. He is now available for additional illustration
projects.
